Compliant Vs Certified Gloves

Compliant Vs Certified Gloves

The Difference Between Compliant and Certified Safety Gloves

Hand and wrist injuries are one of the most common work-related injuries, so it is easy to see why adequate hand protection is so important! At Elliotts, we believe in lifting the standard on hand protection and supporting organisations in ensuring their workers are safe. To this end, we have put together some information on what makes safety gloves certified versus compliant, and why it is so important that organisations know the difference!

Compliance

It is common to see safety products that claim “compliance” to a standard, or that the product is “manufactured to meet the requirements of” a standard. The problem with this is that products are compliant with the standards of the manufacturer. In cases where a product is labelled as compliant, often it has not been assessed by a third party to ensure that it does meet the required standard.

Certification

In cases where safety gloves are certified, the manufacturer has engaged an independent third party (such as SAI Global) to verify the product and satisfy an extensive list of criteria. Products that have been certified are clearly identifiable, often using a trademarked logo of the certification body on the label.

Third parties offering certification will ensure products meet requirements by:

◉  Type testing product samples.

◉  On-site factory assessments of the manufacturing facility.

◉  Annual factory surveillance audits where the manufacturing facility is checked to ensure maintenance is occurring.

◉  On-going type testing where product samples are regularly re-tested.
