The Ergonomic Advantage of a Better-Balanced Arc Flash Visor
When arc flash PPE is assessed, most attention goes to protection levels, standards and lens performance. Those factors are critical. But there is another issue that has a major impact on how PPE performs in the real world: ergonomics.
If a visor feels awkward, heavy or badly balanced, workers notice straight away. And if it continues to feel uncomfortable throughout the day, it can affect acceptance, focus and consistent use. That is why ergonomics is not just about comfort. It is about compliance and performance as well.
The ArcSafe® Toric AmpShield™ Arc Flash Face Shield has been designed with that in mind. One of its most practical features is the weight-compensating slotted cap bracket, developed to reduce the imbalance felt when the shield is in the stowed position above the head. This is a familiar problem with many traditional visors. The visor also includes an integrated transparent chin protector, which adds protection from hazards approaching from below, such as debris and splash, without blocking the field of view.
Practicality has been considered in maintenance, too. The LeverLock® attachment system allows easy shield replacement, while press-to-release slotted adaptors simplify bracket removal. There is also the option to add an optional Streamlight® flashlight on either side of the face shield for additional task lighting.
